Notice of fraudulent communications that appear to come from MasterCardTM

UNFCU has been informed that some members have been receiving fraudulent emails that appear to come from MasterCard. MasterCard’s name and other graphics have been used fraudulently in numerous “phishing” emails aimed at tricking people into providing sensitive financial and personal data on replicated Websites

The email is sent from rrosasjr1@satx.rr.com and tells readers that their “E-mail address was selected and confirmed by our co-sponsor Microsoft International, through their latest internet software. You are therefore been approved by MasterCard Int. /Microsoft United Kingdom the sum of £1,600,000.00”.

The email then states: “Make sure you E-mail the above Claims Administrator, at once with all the claims Requirements below to avoid unnecessary delay, they are needed to process your claims.
Claims Requirements:

1. Full Name...
2. Address...
3. Nationality...
4. Age... Date of Birth...
5. Occupation...
6. Phone...Fax...
7. State of Origin...Country...”

If you have received this email, do NOT click on the link or provide your personal information. Please delete it immediately as it is a fraudulent email.

Be aware that the MasterCard will never:

  • Initiate communication directly with UNFCU members regarding any account or personal information
  • Request personal information, such as card numbers, PIN, etc. via the Internet
  • Should you receive any suspicious emails, please delete them immediately, and most importantly do NOT respond or give out your information to anyone unless you have initiated the communication.
