Understanding the International Service Assessment (ISA) Fee.
An International Service Assessment Fee (ISA) is a currency conversion fee. Since all transactions on U.S. issued credit cards are posted in U.S. dollars, VISA® convert any purchase amount made outside the United States, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands into U.S. dollars and charge a currency conversion fee for that process regardless of whether there is a currency conversion associated with the transaction. As for UNFCU, VISA charges a 1% fee for international transactions made with your UNFCU VISA Credit Card and while other card issuers may charge as much as 3%. Please note that this fee is NOT a new fee. Changes with card company regulations now require it to be listed as a separate charge on your statement. Previously, this fee was included in the exchange rate by VISA as part of the total transaction amount. The ISA fee is assessed by VISA, not by United Nations Federal Credit Union.
