| Evaluating
Your Credit |
Your first step in evaluating your credit should be reviewing
what information is included in your credit record. If you
live in the United States, the best way to see how others view
your personal credit is to obtain
a copy of your credit report. We have made it easy for
you to do this by partnering with Experian® — a leading
credit reporting agency.

Why examine your credit report?
Whether in the U.S. or in another country where your credit
record is maintained, every time you apply for credit, you
authorize the creditor to examine your credit report. Other
individuals and institutions — prospective employers
and rental agents, for example — may also look at your
credit report. If you have ever received a “pre-approved” credit
card offer in the mail, chances are, the sender has also reviewed
your credit report.
Therefore, it is very prudent to take a look at what criteria
so many institutions, including UNFCU, examine to make decisions
that impact your life.

What does your credit report contain?
In your U.S. credit report, you will find basic identification
information: your name, address, social security number, date
of birth, and employment information. You will also see all
your credit card and loan information, including: types of
accounts, dates accounts were opened, credit limits and/or
original loan amounts, balances, payment history (including
late payments), and closed accounts. Public record information
(bankruptcies, foreclosures, law suits, wage attachments, liens,
judgments) and collection agency information is also included
in your credit report.
You will also find out the identity of everyone who has requested
your report within the past two years.
