Ana María Alvarez Herrera

Board candidate (Incumbent)
Bellevue, Switzerland

Relevant experience and qualifications

I have been a UNFCU member for 20 years and on the Board of Directors since 2018. I am an Economist with a Doctorate from Sorbonne University. Financing issues have been at the heart of my long professional career. I have brought to the Board a solid background which includes my work for the domestic banking system and more than 20 years at UNCTAD. My focus was providing support to UN member countries in collaboration with other UN organizations, development banks, and other entities. I oversaw projects and budget management. My leadership, supervisory, and communication skills were highly commended. I have shared the wealth of my experience with the Board for the benefit of UNFCU members.

Candidate statement

The work of the Board of Directors includes analyzing financial statements, monitoring performance against indicators, and evaluating the various types of risk the credit union is exposed to. In-depth knowledge of governance policies, credit union regulations, information technology developments, and the UNFCU business plan and budget are critical to the Board’s work. The work and meetings of the Board have deepened my knowledge of UNFCU finance matters and other key areas of UNFCU governance. It would be an honor to continue to serve the Board. I reiterate my full commitment and energy to ensure that UNFCU grows and is responsive to the needs of its diverse membership around the world.
